Why must women conform to the societal views of men have they not created these men of society Women in Antebellum South were most definitely underappreciated As women they had specific roles in society A woman was to do what she was told no matter her personal opinion The men of the society felt they had complete control as the stereotypes of women and men began in nature they followed them In Mark Twains novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Twain shows the feminist roles in the Antebellum South He writes about the different female characters who Huck encounters who defy the typical feminist stereotype Twain depicts the Antebellum South society to see women as inferior This perception of feminism helps to open eyes to the reasoning behind why men treat women the way they do in this cross-section of 1800s society Women in the Antebellum South were undermined having little say resulted in strict female roles to be played with the household Women were made to follow specific roles of society set by nature enforced by men According to Holmes Singh women were expected to be nurturing and supportive whereas men were expected to be strong and independent This is a typical view of sexism that was presented in the Antebellum South Women were also seen to be responsible for domestic tasks such as cooking cleaning and childrearing Since women did not have much duty outside the household they spent their days tending to all domestic needs and raising their kids to fit the stereotypes Antebellum South set As part of being a woman they were dressed in attire in order to attract men to their figure as well as taught to smile for men A man was what a woman needed in life to live their life successfully Womens Role in Antebellum Women were considered inferior to men in society thus forcing them to follow the specific roles made for a woman
