A Wizard of Earthsea The novel A Wizard of Earthsea is about a world of magic filled with wizards dragons and evil The story is about the protagonists journey through magic and life while trying to defeat the evil shadow that wants to consume him Throughout the novel A Wizard of Earthsea Ged learned many valuable lessons concerning his philosophy of life and of good and evil When Ged was young he was full of pride and was inexperienced in the ways of the wizard and due to this he unwillingly released an evil shadow that sought to totally consume him These incidents cause Ged to learn valuable lessons concerning the appropriate use of his magic powers From this conflict Ged became mature and wise and the greatest wizard of his time When Ged was young and in Roke the school for wizards he was full of pride Geds rival Jasper always looked down on him and never praised him Ged was full of pride I could of done better he said to himself in bitter envy Pg64 Most of all though he wanted to show up his rival Jasper Ged swore to himself to outdo his rival and not in some mere illusion-match but in a test of power He would prove himself and humiliate Jasper Pg 57 Ged was very inexperienced in the art of wizardry and concerning life Ged was filled with hate for his rival and his inexperience caused him to challenge Jasper and summon a spirit from the dead Ged tried to summon Elfarran from the deed of Enlad but he disturbed the balance of light and dark which caused the release of an evil shadow that attacked Ged You used that power wrongly to work a spell over you had no control not knowing how that spell affects the balance of light and dark life and death good and evil And you were moved
