The career path I chose was becoming a psychologist I plan to pursue this career because Ive always been interested in helping others and trying to figure out solutions to certain problems In high school I was always intrigued by the psychology courses that were offered Whenever I had free time in my schedule I would take advantage of the opportunity and enroll in a psychology class I have always been the girl my friends come to for advice especially when it relates to relationships or family issues Theyve always told me that I give the right advice This is why I have decided to continue down this path and become a psychologist I would love to help adults and children with any mental or learning disabilities they may have and figure out diagnoses and solutions for them I would like to help patients with emotional issues they are facing as well Becoming a psychologist would mean working with both men and women In this career path there is a larger group of women that essentially choose this path over men According to the 2007 Census employment data there is a total number of 50286 men in this occupation and a total of 64132 women Even though there is not an immense increase in women there is definitely more women that choose this occupation than men The 2007 Census employment data also shows that there are 439 men which is less than half that are in the psychology field This concludes that the work place is unbalanced between men and women by around 14000 more women The reason I believe there is slightly more women than men in this occupation is because it involves a nurturing personality to help families adults and children It is an emotional profession which some men think of as feminine This makes the psychology profession to be more directed towards women The gender imbalance is especially prominent in psychology For
