There I was sitting next to the camp fire underneath the stars Everyone else was off tothe sack and there was me just thinking of how I got into this mess The goal was to go to auniversity and create a career for myself Afterall all of my friends Richard James and Nathanwere also after their new careers and so very confident that they would never get drafted into a war that they were better than As time passed I started to believe what they kept on saying I mean I just simply wasnt the type Didnt play football no uppperbody strength and stayed in the house all day How could they possibly choose me to take the place of a killing machineOne day I woke up to a wonderful morning the sky clear blue birds chirping everything was just perfect and tranquil Washed up and ready to eat some breakfast I march outside ever so eager for a bowl of Honey Nut Cheeriors and there they were at the table My parents had that extremely dejected face and almost looked like they someone had just died As they shakingly handed me the opened envelope without even looking at the contents within I feltlike Deaths blade had been pushed through me as I fell out of an empty body Greeting You are hereby ordered for induction into the Armed Forces of the United States I stopped reading Just after that line I felt like crying but I just couldnt I thought that I was already dead Thatspretty much how it all startedWalking into the tent I noticed my friend Kevin sucking his finger as if he were still a toddler and Justin who had the most peculiar sleeping position with his face straight up against the pillow and his legs and arms spread wide as if he fell off from a cliff in Looney Tunes It wasgratifying to have people like them as it felt
