The short story Happy Endings has a lot more meaning behind it then someone might think Although it may be short there is still more than one underlying meaning being told The three main messages that can be taken away from this story are its easy to fall in love but its harder to stay in love everyones story begins differently and everyone dies The first two sections of the short story Happy Endings A and B are centered around two characters named John and Mary In section A it explains that John and Marry had a happy ordinary life They fall in love and get married They are wealthy and have good kids and continue to have a fulfilling life until the end when they both end up dying In section B it is about three characters named John and Mary and Madge Mary is in love with John but John doesnt love her He just uses her Mary does anything for John to try to get him to like her but he continues to just use her He eventually has a fling with another girl named Madge This hurts Mary so she commits suicide He eventually marries Madge and everything continues as in A 33 The next section of Happy Endings is C Section C is about John cheating on Madge with Mary Mary doesnt really love John because she just feels sorry for him 33 Mary is actually in love with James One day John finds Mary and James together He is overcome with despair 33 and shoots them and himself Madge is devastated but after a while she marries a man name Fred In section D Madge and Fred have a happy life together One day a tidal wave comes through the place where they live Many people die but they manage to survive and they continue to live a happy life as in A Although in section E Fred has
