Bridget's feedback:
"You are off to a great start, and the current pages (the essay appears to be unfinished) have a good sense of logic and organization. Each paragraph does well in communicating the specific point to the reader, allowing them to build up their understanding as the argumentation progresses. Your first task will probably be to finish the essay, either by continuing the historical narrative or, if the essay's ending is the 1924 Act, in crafting a conclusion that helps the reader understand the overall shape of the essay. Because you open the discussion with reference to precolonial and early America, I think a conclusion could productively bring the reader into the present day, briefly, to show the through line, emphasized in the current draft as the contradictions of America's identity as an immigrant nation.
Regarding the lower-order concerns, a careful proofread should be used to catch some awkward diction and phrasing and cleaning up minor mechanics, including punctuation, for clarity and readability."
