Journalism has advanced in various ways due to the technological breakthroughs in our society We now have accessibility to new technology such as satellites that allows us to communicate and transmit data faster than ever before This way we have the option of picking which news station we would like to watch at any given time News is easily and quickly reported on phone applications and websites With all the different news stations trying to get us information quickly and trying to be the first ones on the scene how can we be certain that what theyre telling us is credible In Neil Postman and Steve Powers novel How to Watch TV News they describe how the news and what we watch is dictated by the money hungry News Corporations Their goal is to round up as many viewers possible and get people interested in new types of products shown in commercials Many stations have already shown and proved that money is the only thing on the news corporations agenda This has negatively affected journalism by making it hard to believe whats true and whats not In an attempt to raise their ratings and make more money News corporations have lost the ability to provide the viewers with a reliable source and therefore have lost their credibility Money has become the motivation and the drive behind modern day news No longer is it the goal to deliver the public with truthful and important information In Neil Postman and Steve Powers novel How to Watch TV News they go into depth on how money is the new object of the news The news industry isnt what it used to be In the novel it reads The networks have always been largely concerned about making money but at an earlier time they felt keenly their obligation to operate first-class news departments even if it meant running them at deficit That sort of thinking is now as obsolete
