Bridget's feedback:
"This is a good start! As your reader, I appreciate the insight you bring to the show, especially the discussion about how updates of classic tropes created the series' appeal.
One of the first things a reader notices about the essay is the length of the paragraphs. (I also notice the indents are smaller than usual; check your MLA resource for specific sizes.) Your paragraphs are focused and stick to their introduced topic, which is a good start with organization. However, long and dense paragraphs can overwhelm a reader and visually suggest your argument doesn't develop much. My first recommendation is thus to review each body paragraph and note where the discussion shifts. When you move from a broader claim to an example, see if the example discussion can become its own related paragraph (e.g., the "Chandler humor" area could be its own shorter paragraph developing your humor discussion by profiling one of the characters; ditto the "PIVOT" discussion). I can also see the introduction being broken into two paragraphs: one that introduces the show and a second that dives into the sitcom styles and why you've chosen "classic."
Reading over the writing and argumentation, I also spot numerous opportunities to streamline and tighten up the writing. This creates more focused claims and discussions that, by being efficient and clear, reach the reader more immediately. While streamlining will often mean paring down syntax, trimming phrases and words, or picking more precise word choice that can replace a longer phrase, keep an eye out for sentence boundary revisions (either by fusing sentences or breaking up longer sentences into shorter ones) that can help with flow, clarity, and idea."
