By reading Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder I had to incorporate Milios framework with how the Haitian community lives Reading about the community how poverty and lack of necessaries affects them severely in different aspects and breaking down the problems using Milios framework helps one understand how all their troubles affect their health The book follows the journey of Dr Paul Farmer an anthropologist who lives in Haiti for 9 months of the year and helps out the community throughout all their strugglesPopulation and scope of problemThe population Haitian communities who have an immense deal of poverty Dr Paul Farmer tries to help the society by opening a Zanmi Lasante which is a place where the community can come and get treated The main problem with the population is untreated tuberculosis and is starting to slowly developing HIVAIDS Because of scarce resources the population is not educated about prevention and treatment With Farmer helping the community the rate of AIDS transmission from mothers to their newborns decreased to about 4 pg32 Another problem is that when people go to the hospital not only do they have to pay a substantial amount which they cant afford they are seen by doctors who dont care about their health pg82 The population seemed to be affected equally with the exception of the rich who have the money to afford a good caring doctor Another problem was methods of transportation Many walked some had donkeys and others would pile up in an old truck The highways were mainly dirt with many potholes no lights and extremely dangerous for everyone Overall the population is very unhealthy due to lack of government support If the wealthy werent so greedy and the government not so corrupted the communities could easily manage a simple life style free from diseases Many dont have education and many die at a very young age due to lack of health centers accessibility Everything always turns
