Although the works of the scientists in the sixteenth and seventeenthcentury was impacted by political religious and social factorshowever social factors played the biggest part in affecting the workNot all of the factors were negative some were against the newdiscoveries but some were for the new discoveries These works caused anew scientific worldview Between the 16th century to the 18th centurythe scientists were called natural philosophers These philosophersbegan to wonder and began basing their knowledge on direct observationand math They started to use math evidence that they could see andfreedom of questions to create the science of todays world During the Medieval times peoples views traditions and practiceswere governed by the Church The ideas of the universe were based on thegeocentric theory that was proposed by Aristotle and Ptolemy TheGeocentric Theory says that the Earth is the center of the universe anddidnt move and this was supported by the Church In the sixteenthcentury Nicolaus Copernicus created the Heliocentric View which saidthe sun was the center of the universe and that the Earth revolvedaround the sun This was the opposite of the Geocentric Theory whichmade it the opposite of the Churchs view Due to this the Churchdeclared this false and persecuted anyone who agreed with Copernicus Inthe 17th century a letter from a monk was sent to Galileo telling himthat people were starting to ask questions about everything that couldpossibly be true if Galileo was right To clarify these questionsGalileo should keep repeatedly telling those of higher power in thereligious world of his findings 3 Even though Giovanni Ciampoli themonk who sent the letter was religiously powerful he encouragedGalileo to tell others of everything he discovered Another monk MarinMersenne also believed in the works of Galileo and even defended himsaying that there was experimental proof by Mersenne to back upGalileos work 5 At the beginning the Church was against these newtheories but as time went on they started to become accepted and evenfought for by religious
