Keeping the Dream Alive I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal These words are part of a famous speech spoken by Martin Luther King Jr on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on August 28 1963 This speech was spoken at a time when white people discriminated against any other color Though all people were free the colored people were not given equal rights Other white citizens would not treat anyone of the other race fairly Later whites and people of different races started to get along and equal rights were given to everyone Some people were still prejudice but it wasnt as bad as before After the September 11th attacks occurred I believe that a great deal of prejudice is being used against all Muslims in the United States Although we have found terrorist links to some of our Muslim citizens we should not assume that all Muslims are alike You should also remember that there are people of other races linked with terrorist attacks Like every American that now lives in our great country our ancestors traveled abroad for a better life Now the Muslims like the others before them are being tormented In order to keep Martin Luther Kings dream alive we should treat others the way we would like to be treated How would you like to be disrespected What if a person didnt want to serve you at their restaurant or treated you unfairly because of your race We all must put questions like these into our minds every time we even think of treating a person with disrespect Put yourself in their shoes Sure maybe prejudice will not be as bad as time goes on There will be another time when a certain race will
