Bachelor 1 Eric Bachelor Mr Buchta English 3 12 September 2000 How to Throw Curveball To be a successful pitcher a curveball is a necessity The curve ball is the best off-speed pitch to throw next to a change-up A curveball is a not a difficult pitch to throw Once the basics are learned it just depends on physical ability There are many aspects that must be included to throw a efficient curveball The number one aspect to throwing a curveball is the grip on the ball First off hide the ball in your glove so that you dont give the pitch away to the hitter One way to grip it is to Grip the ball with you middle and index fingers perpendicular to the seems with your thumb underneath the ball Henshell 1 Once the ball is griped then spread your fingers apart but only a little Then once the ball is gripped apply pressure with your middle finger This will put different pressure points on the ball for tighter rotation Be sure that the knuckles of all three fingers are bent Now that you have know how to grip the ball time to learn the wind up The wind up for a curveball should be the same as a fastball and every other pitch that you are throwing A pitcher should never change the wind up because a smart hitter will be looking for a change and when they see it they will know what is coming So practice keeping the same wind up and composure as you would with a fastball When throwing a curveball the palm of the hand should be facing the catcher When throwing a curveball rotate the wrist 90 so that the edge of your pinkie is facing the catcher Slow your arm down just enough that the break will be bigger If you want it to be sharper use the same arm speed
