"This essay is off to a good start, with a sound organization that moves the reader logically through the examples. I would suggest clarifying if the programming inside the prison is mostly relevant to drug offenders, or if you are widening the scope after your first discussion about treatment. Keep an eye on proper MLA formatting--the parenthetical citation should come before the punctuation at the end of a sentence: "...quote text" (citation). To strengthen the claims, read over your paper and see if broad statements ("Prisoners usually stay...", "the cause of prison becoming overcrowded...") can be replaced or backed up with a source. You can also create more urgency and stakes using source-backed figures (for example, recidivism rates). As a final comment--and this may depend on your prompt and the project scope--consider using counterarguments to build ethos and strengthen your thesis. These counterarguments might question or contest a specific program (for example, the firefighting program has encountered pushback) or the broader concept or philosophy of treatment and programming."
