Question4 Applying what you learnedA Leadership is a rare skill hence the growing demand for leaders in the workplaces A leader is a person who leads or commands a group an organization a country or a simply a person followed by others Napoleon Bonaparte George Washington Winston Churchill and David Ben Gurion are great examples of just that What makes a person a leader or better a great leader Is it IQ or some special skillPeople tend to associate leadership with determination vision guts and most importantly with intelligence I always knew that intelligence should make it to the top of the list however I never really thought of how to define what it takes to be a successful leader This article points out that recent studies demonstrate very clearly that it is the emotional intelligence that plays the greater role in leadership Emotional intelligence according to Daniel Goleman has five elements self-awareness self-regulation motivation empathy and social skills I believe this are all very important traits a leader must possess and will focus on the 3 I learned the most from Self-awarenessAfter reading this article I came to the conclusion that self-awareness is a key for emotional intelligence When a person has the ability to recognize and understand their strengths and weaknesses they are able to focus their attention on improving their weaknesses and further their personal growth For example a manager with control issues that is aware of hisher problem to trust his employees and divide the responsibilities once become aware can now move forward to changing hisher behavior and slowly drifting away from their destructive pattern I also learn that the trademark for self-awareness is staying realistic honest yet self confident These are expressed by acknowledging a challenge when faced with one and knowing to ask for help when they know they cant handle it alone and taking calculated risks There is a sentence in Hebrew that says-
