Hindered JudgmentEveryday people lead others Our leaders lead us through the most precarious we face James Ramsey Ullmans Top Man is a centered around leadership The story takes place in British India post-1924 on the fictitious mountain Kalpurtha K3 The first of the two main characters is Martin Nace an experienced venerable mountaineer who is embarking on his sixth attempt of Kalpurtha The other is Paul Osborn a youthful active mountaineer who is at the peak of his career and is making his first attempt on K3 Ullman sets up these characters to dispute over key decisions while on the mountain In addition the characters are trying to survive a formidable climb up one of the most treacherous mountains in the world Throughout the novel they encounter both physical and collaborative challenges However Nace the leader is able to save many multiple climbers lives He is able to keep the team safe in their battle against the extreme treacherous environmental conditions Finally Nace as an inspiring leader is able to prevail in making a successful attempt at the summit proving that leadership allows people in adverse situations to prevail Martin Nace takes up leadership in Top Man and successfully saves lives through the unfavorable circumstances his six-man team face For example when the last porters start falling on a ridge his team is climbing Nace immediately takes lead and is able to save most of his teams lives Nace shouts Jump as he said it the rope went tight about Randolphs waist and I went hurtling after him into space on the opposite side of the ridge After me came the nearest porter104 Nace successfully saves all but two of the lives of those on his team He is able to save Osborn and Randolphs lives as well as two of the porters This is an amazing feat because with out
