"The way in which you establish the young waiter as a contrast to the old man in the first body paragraph is an effective means of emphasizing the old man's isolation. You do this particularly well when you introduce and explain the quote about the young waiter's wife waiting for him at home. However, the focus on the young waiter in the first body paragraph and the introduction of the old waiter in the second body paragraph combined with the ambiguity of your introduction result in confusion over who the focal characters in your response are. Directly identifying that the old man and the old waiter in your conclusion will clear up that confusion. There are also potential points of confusion within your body paragraphs. Specifically, when you attribute morality to the old man and lack of religion to the old waiter, you do not clearly explain the traits. For example, though you describe the old man as moral, you do not make it clear how him leaving the cafe proves this. Similarly, you attribute the old waiter's lack of religion to his loneliness but do not provide an explanation. Additionally, because "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" is a short story, it should not be italicized, only placed between quotation marks.
