Organic Compounds in FoodsObjective The purpose of this lab was to determine which organic compounds are found in our foodsHypothesis For each food we predicted which organic compound each contain and did not contain If we recorded a addition sign that meant that we predicted that it was going to be positive in that organic compound If we recorded a subtraction sign - it meant that we predicted it was going to be negative in that organic compound My food was CheeriosFood SugarStarchProteinLipidSaltCheerios---Apple--Bun---Cookies-Potato Chips--Doritos--Pretzel Rods-Celery-----Clementine--Cheese--Ham--Materials used ProcedureMethodsWe gathered materialsPut one piece of tape on test tubeMarked tape with marker as SugarPut one Cheerio in test tubePut three dropper fulls of Benedicts solution in test tube with CheerioMaterials Calorimeter set 2 Styrofoam cups 2 cup lids metal bar two thermometers with the same room temperatureBoiling water room temperature waterDataTime minutesTemperature of Calorimeter ACTemperature of Calorimeter B C020C62C220C61C420C59C621C58C822C57C1023C55C1223C54C1424C52C1625C51C1825C50C2026C49CCalculationsAnalysisResultsMy observations of this lab were that the metal bar started to get very hot and the Styrofoam cup and lid were also very hot The thermometer seemed to also be hot in the boiling water and cold in the room temperature water As I was taking the temperature I also noticed that both temperatures were changing the boiling water was lowering in temperature and the room temperature was getting higher in temperature I also noticed that the boiling water had seemed to change in temperature more than the room temperature had The room temperature water had also seemed go up by 1C when it changed but stay the same temperature for a couple minutes AnalysisConclusions In the lab my hypothesis has turned out to be false The temperatures in each cup had seemed to change the room temperature water became higher in temperature and the boiling water had become lower in temperature One variable that I think really does matter in this
