In the movie A Raisin in the Sun Lena is portrayed as very caring and loving compared to her character in the book as a soft-spoken but hot-tempered woman Lorraine Hansberry shows that Lena is a full-bodied woman who speaks softly but at the same time has a very short temper Lenas role as mother of two children and grandmother is however differently portrayed in the movie She is a demanding loud-speaking woman and makes herself clear in every situation Lena is depicted as a loud-speaking woman in the movie but is only thought of as being careless and soft-spoken with her words in the book The words that she speaks in the movie to her children about having dreams and working to make them come true are so demanding yet very meaningful In other points of the movie she is very loud and wants nothing but the best for her kids In the book Hansberry explains that she is very soft-spoken and very carefree in her speech She still has the same hopes and dreams for her and her family but she is not as demanding or loud of a woman However she is very short-tempered and doesnt like her kids arguing with her In the book Lena has a hot temper but in the movie her character is softened showing only love and forgiveness toward her children It is written that Bobo visits Walter and informs him that Willy Harris ran off with the money that he gave him When Lena finds out that Walter gave Willy all of his and his sisters money she looses her temper and physically hits Walter in attempt to knock some sense into him In the movie Lena only reacts by giving Walter a hug knowing that her son is going through the roughest time in his life In the book A Raisin in the Sun Lena is pictured as a soft-spoken woman with a short temper
