The Great Depression was an enormous economic disaster The stock market crash on Black Tuesday October 29th 1929 this was the beginning of the Great Depression Many Americans lost everything and were living off nothing but scraps of food The economy had no money and nearly half the countrys banks failed which led to tons of problems for the nation Through this time period the attitude was very self-blaming and self-doubting Life during the Great Depression was miserable for most of everyone in the country Unemployment hit large numbers through early 30s and late 40s Unemployment in the US rose to 25 and in other countries rose up to 33 People were losing their jobs everywhere they were being fired from their jobs and could not afford to give their families food and shelter No one could find jobs because there was none available Also because immigrants were coming in from other countries and were willing to work for almost nothing and that caused for them to take all of the jobs Businesses and factories would benefit from the immigrants because they were saving tons of money by hiring them Many children took on greater responsibilities at an earlier age Some teenagers found jobs when their parents could not even find a simple jobThe Great Depression was a time period that was very despairing and shameful Most families in America during this time were either middle class or poor only a very few were wealthy The communities found themselves begging door to door for food and clothing and if they could get some they would to share it with one another to show support of these hard times Free food was also given in some places and huge crowds were created Also massive lines to receive government aid when it was provided Numerous of communities lived in very horrible homes and some even lived in tentsshacks and some even had to make
