Bridget's feedback:
"You've done a good job carefully guiding your reader through your discussion, and your observations on the differences in tone are good. You will need a concluding paragraph to bring together your observations on the differences between the two stories. Pay attention to what your introduction and thesis "promises" to explain to your reader--you should wrap that up in a conclusion. You will also want to continue refining how you signpost for the reader. For example, it's very good to draw connections back to previous paragraphs, but I would suggest always being as precise as possible--rather than writing, "the previous author discussed", it will be more helpful to your reader if you simply write, "Poe." This is a matter of clarity and word choice, and this will be a good area to focus on as you develop your personal style and voice. More generally, I would recommend proofreading for word choice across the essay. I noticed in your Poe paragraph that you allude to sentences but do not directly quote them. Paraphrasing and summarizing is fine, though direct quotations can be very useful to show the author's use of language--important when you are analyzing tone. However, I do not recommend directing the reader to the text location (sentence, paragraph)--use the citation (page number), but above all, provide the reader with the information they need, in your writing, to follow your argument."
