Management is getting people to do what needs to be done Leadershipis getting people to want to do what needs to be done Iserloh 2007para 1 The main difference between management and leadership is thatone is much more effective when it comes to supervising employeesaccomplishing company goals and impacting the organization as a whole Management focuses on planning organizing and finishing daily tasks Leadership on the other hand is more people focused Leaders helpworkers see a clear vision of what could be and keep them focused onattaining their goals because they see the long term result Management leans towards the transactional leadership style in thatemployees are told what to do and they follow orders or they willreceive negative repercussions For years companies have used thistransactional style to enforce the rewardpunishment system based on anemployees performance and have ignored the negative impact it has ontheir employees Once companies recognize the crippling effects thisnegative influence has they can better understand that even thoughmanagement and leadership are not the samethey are necessarily linkedand complimentary Murray 2011 para 1 Leadership leans towardthe transformational style in that they get their workers to get thingsdone by inspiring and motivating to not only see the leaders vision butthey will ultimately follow it Its important for companies to helpdevelop leaders because it will ultimately benefit their success anddrive their employees to find value in what they do everyday In many organizations managers were often times the lead performers atthe employee level but just because they are good at what they dodoesnt mean they are up to the challenge of managing others Leadershipskills need to be developed and managers are most often times nottrained nor possess the necessary leadership traits when they are placedin that position of power When addressing any group of people in order to relay a message from thetop leaders of the company about things that require improvement we canclearly see the management vs leadership
