Bridget's feedback:
"You are off to a good start, and as your reader, I appreciate the signposting and focused paragraphs. You make good use of textual details to introduce a number of interesting observations and points about the text. As you move forward, I recommend taking a moment to focus your thesis and discussion: right now, they are pulled in a few different directions--an analysis of the symbols, including the role of symbols in foreshadowing, and an analysis based on psychology--that don't yet come together in a clear or compelling way. I recommend a reverse outline technique or highlighting each sentence based on which of these strands it contributes to. Once you've done this, take a look at how the ideas are organized--where they appear together in paragraphs, if certain paragraphs focus on one or the other, and sentences that attend to more than one of the ideas--to get a sense of how you are advancing the various discussions and where they start to come together.
Ideally this will also help address an issue with the ending, which is that the conclusion is currently tacked onto what otherwise looks like a body paragraph about Simon. Instead of filling that out, I recommend nailing down the direction your thesis will take in future drafts and working with the body paragraphs first; you can then craft a conclusion that responds to the next iteration of your essay. As a brief final note, check if "motif" is the term you want in your first paragraph."
