Current ResearchThe Brain-ComputerAs we move into the information age the ability to spread of knowledge grows significantly along with our ability to interact with technology First we interacted with keyboards in a terminal interface Later when the mouse was invented a user could click objects in a graphical interface As our computers got faster it allowed us to process more difficult things such as the ability to translate speech to text accurately Now with emerging technology we are able to control computers with only our mind The brain-computer interface or BCI is a cutting-edge scientific field that someday will allow humans to control a computer with their brain GG1 This emerging field of science is mostly funded by the defense department much like how the Internet was GG1 The brain-computer as of now works by sensors attached to your head to measure brainwaves that are then converted to digital signal for processing Research done by the University of Washington published findings that showed how part of the brain that is sending instructions gets messages from other parts of the brain The University of Washington is not the only facility studying this field many companies are involved in the research as well such as Emotiv NeuroSky and Interactive ProductThere are many companies are pushing EEG and MMI technology allowing people control computers with their mind One company called NeuroSky is helping researchers understand how the technology senses our brainwaves and allows us to use it as input to computer programs The future of this research lies in the ability to get real time feedback of the emotional and cognitive states of its users GG5Sensing Mental StatesWith the use of NeuroSkysMindSet headset a person is able to collect two pieces of information attention meter values indicate users mental focus and meditation values indicate the level of calmness from a user GG5 NeuroSky tested the accuracy of the mediation and attention values in an experiment where users were
