My name is Anna and Im one of 252124 immigrants who came to Canada in 2009 I was 14 years old when my parents received a letter that we have a permission to come to Canada as permanent residences For the family of 7 kids and parents it was the greatest news at that time since the economy in Latvia Europe was weak and many people were loosing jobs it was the biggest gift that anybody could ever give I was very excited to move to Canada however the feelings of fear and nervousness remained inside all the time I didnt know how people in Canada are going to accept me Will I make such strong friendships as I had in Latvia How am I going to speak language that I have never spoken in my life All this questions I kept asking myself on the way to Canada But there was no one to answer them because we didnt have anybody here that we knew When we finally came here everything wasnt that bad as I was imagining In few weeks I started going to school met a lot of people and what stood out to me the most at my first day in school that I wasnt the only one who was struggling with language moreover teachers were so nice that even when I had to use gestures language they would understand me and were always happy to help me Within a year I found a job at the local grocery store that helped me out a lot to get more involved with Canadian culture In school I saw many kids were very involved at school by running some fun programs but I knew that even if I would really want to do it I would have to learn language first and it would take a very long time but I couldnt wait to do something for community and then
