The day was 11 July 2004 which was the day prior to my nieces third birthday My family was spending most of the day with party preparations and enjoying our last moments together It was around two in the afternoon when the recruiters knocked on my door My heart sank and my soul was filled with excitement I said goodbye to my family and choked on my tears as I walked out the house With efforts to make the good-bye short I quickly walked to the vehicle and jumped inside As my recruiter drove off I sat back and thought to myself maybe Ive made a mistake When we arrived at the holding facility I gathering my belongings and walked inside to check in All recruits were required to stay here the night before shipping out When I finally got to my room and laydown I could not sleep I tossed and turned for hours before I finally drifted off Of course that did not last long before I knew it the time had come to arise and prepare for my flight All Navy recruits had to catch a flight to Chicago for boot camp We arrived at the airport checked our luggage and boarded our flight This was the moment when my nerves became unsettled After our long flight we finally arrived and were escorted to a bus outside It was early morning and extremely dark outside As the bus drove off into the darkness I could hardly sit still I was so anxious and nervous to see what was in store for meAfter a 30 minbus ride we pulled into the gate and all I could see was a line of scary looking men and women As the bus halted and the door opened a man stepped on board and immediately started screaming I had no idea what he was saying so I just did like everyone else We
