This is the best day of my life and I want to do this forever is what I told my mother at age seven at the end my very first dance recital Of course at the time I never knew how much of my life I would dedicate to dancing but as I realized my love for the art and performing it became more than just an activity it became a passion From this moment on it truly was the beginning of my successful dancing career which has taught me many valuable lessons about the art of dance and the art of lifeLife is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood Ralph Waldo Emerson This is a quote I heard in English class while talking about the ideals of Transcendentalism and connects to both dance and life Just how learning lessons in life is essential learning is central to the development of a dancer For example when I changed studios my freshmen year in high school I trained with dancers who had been used to studying with teachers from Broadway performed in ballet companies and are present Radio City Rockette dancers Because the teachers at my old studio were not as qualified as these teachers it meant I had to work even harder to achieve the same level as the dancers around me From each teacher I learned something different even though practices and classes were long and grueling and there were times I wanted to give up I sensed that I would be rewarded for my efforts and improve as a dancer As a connection to life I realized that you have to work hard for all the things that you want One has to always push them-selves to achieve their goals and aspirations Another lesson I learned when switching studios is how to get along with others and become a part of this foreign environment I
