MLK once stated Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice suffering and struggle the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individualsThe most important experience to me is starting the process of realizing that I was more than what was around me Realizing this created something in me that continues to develop with time This transition happened between my fourth and fifth grade years I went from blaming everyone for my troubles to accepting responsibility and gaining understanding from barely making it past the second third and fourth grade to excelling in school and most of all from being unprepared to being prepared for lifes ups and downs When I pushed myself out of the hole that I was in I gave myself a chance Not the chance at becoming just another part of a stereotype but at becoming one that lights the way for future generations This experience is a growing process that continues to grow today Being one of many young adults to have grown up with close to nothing this experience makes me proud because most in my position dont get out It makes me proud because even when my family had to beg even when my father grandfather and best friend passed over when I was 15 I still graduated from one of the best high schools in the country I am proud of this because even if I fail I still challenge myself and shoot for the best no matter what I have to do whether it is taking that class 100 times to make sure I have mastered the material submitting an application to a school I might have less than a one percent chance of obtaining entrance or fencing in the hardest tournaments I would not want to imagine where I would be without starting the process of realizing what it means to persevere Hard work does not always
