At the age of 20 Ive mastered the small things in life like how to file my taxes maintain my car balance a checkbook and pay my college tuition I know no big deal I would have had to figure it out at some point in my life anyway However most are blessed with guidance and support to accomplish such duties and if privileged enough some parents do these mundane tasks for their children Parents do these small and big things out of love and genuine belief that pushing their child to strive or assisting them will help mold their offsprings into something successful My mother and father took a different approach Just like a mother in a birds nest they nurtured and loved me but as soon as the sight of wings began to loom they pushed me out of the nest to figure out the world on my own From grade school to high school my parents did the bare minimum when it came to my education I had to be my own advocate cheerleader and counselor They were there to sign report cards and lecture me when I did not make a grade that pleased them but they werent there to help me Stressed out of my mind with tests and projects I had no one pushing me or telling me Ill get through it When it came time to pick classes I didnt have a parent to advise me in which class could benefit my future or which elective I might enjoy Whenever I was falling behind or not doing well in a class I had no one to confide in it was all me I spent my junior year looking for a SAT prep center and paying for it with my own money Senior year my parents never came along college visits or helped me come to the decision of my future school or major At the age of 16
