If you could have lunch with any African American in history other than Martin Luther King Jr who would you chose and whyThe African American in history that I would like to have lunch with is Marguerite Ann Johnson born on April 4 1928 in St Louis Missouri she is an American author and poet She has published seven autobiographies three books of essays and several books of poetry and is credited with a list of plays movies and television shows spanning more than fifty years Im choosing Maya Angelo because she has been a role model for me her poems have a meaning to it and it touches me and I just feel Maya Angelo has done a lot for African Americans Maya has been through so much as a child because her parents split up and her mother dated a man and he raped her and her uncle killed him Then at the age of sixteen she became pregnant during a high school relationship and she worked many jobs to help her baby and her Her son changed his name to Clyde who later changed his name to Guy Johnson Maya Angelous second autobiography Gather Together in My Name describes her life from age seventeen to nineteen and depicts a single mothers slide down the social ladder into poverty and crime Maya Angelou worked as the front womanbusiness manager for prostitutes restaurant cook and prostitute She moved through a series of relationships occupations and cities as she struggled to raise her son without job training or advanced education After this Maya Angelos entire career began to take off she began to be on talk shows Broadway and many more Did you also know that Maya Angelo was the first African American woman to have a screenplay produced for the 1972 film Georgia Georgia In 1952 she then married a Greek sailor Maya Angelo and Martin Luther King
