In the United States the second cause of preventable death is obesity according to the Get America Fit Foundation Worldwide obesity has nearly doubled since 1980 affecting more than 14 billion adults and more than 40 million children I can say that I am familiar with the term obesity since half of my family mother and fathers side suffers from it I try to stand up against obesity because I know how this affects thousands of people all over the United States due to their non-healthy eating habits but mostly because it affects my family Unfortunately the customs of our culture especially the consumption of food is in large portions that contain high amounts of sugar flour and fats that make our bodies retain all of it converting it to body fat since we do not keep a regular exercising routine I am sure that obesity can be very harmful and cause serious health problems like type II diabetes high blood pressure and heart disease Besides health problems it affects the physical aspect that often ends in bullying leading to depression when in many cases obesity is inherited due to family genesI have seen in the news many times kids committing suicide or attempt to do it because of the constant abuse of others because of their weight My sister has been dealing with obesity since she was a baby girl Now she is 29 years old and her obesity has affect her terrible because she now suffers from high blood pressure type B diabetes and high cholesterol but fortunately no heart disease yet She used to be constantly bullied about her weight mostly in school but unfortunately we lived in El Salvador and there was not much we could do Once we moved to the United States she was already grown up but she still felt uncomfortable about her weight and being judge by people around her In the US about 78 percent
