The purpose of this assignment is to critically evaluate the unique contribution of occupational therapy in maintaining participation and well-being in adolescent with moderate learning disability LD in work-related activity programme OT considered work as an occupation meaningful to individual Primeau 1996 defines work as any activity that contributes to the good and services of the society whether paid or unpaid Primeau1996 p57 This Occupational therapy programme is set to benefit adolescent from 16 to 19 years old with moderate LD who are making transition from sixth form into gaining employment Therefore the aim of this programme is to assist this group in preparing for successful transition into appropriate employment independent living andor further education This project will include 8 participants programme will run for 6 weeks two sessions every week 4 hour duration Group will engage in various work-related tasks which will enable each individual to gain work skills and habit to access paid or unpaid employment As part of OT promoting social inclusion among LD group this assignment will also critically analyse the barriers and enablers to participation and well being which individual may encounter as they go through this life changing processMencap 2013 defines learning disability as a neurological condition that interferes with individuals ability to store processor and produce information This however can have significant impact on children and young peoples ability to learn at school causing delay in their developmental progress REF Thus it makes it slower for individual to acquire academic skills such as reading writing and numeracy which can also affect their social skills REF Adolescents with learning disabilities fail to acquire or perform social skills due to limited environmental opportunity to learn such skills to perform such skills and to be reinforced for themREF These skills are very important when seeking for job therefore if one does not have it the chance to gaining employment become slimmerRecent studies has shown that at age 16 disabled young people
