What is literacy to me When I first heard of this word I merely thought of reading and writing but in actuality it can mean ones understanding of what they enjoy This is my definition of literacy and I recently came up with the meaning when I read Bummer in the Summer In the essay the writer explains how dyslexia had greatly affected her in her reading and writing literacy but she soon discovers that pottery is her form of literacy She felt and had a great understanding with pottery My story is about how I went from being addicted to reading to rarely having the time for it When I was little my parents did not have a lot of time to read me to sleep so I was first taught how to read by my teacher in first grade It took me about a year for me that whole year to learn how to read bit by bit By the time I could read a whole paragraph without any help I somehow became addicted to reading It got to the point that my eyesight went bad from secretly reading with a mini flashlight in the middle of the night which lead to how I ended up wearing glasses Despite how reading in the dark made my eyesight worse it oddly made me want to read even more During that time of my life I would read about a book a day Every single day I would ask the teacher if I could be excused and go to the library to take an accelerated test It soon led to the librarian becoming great friends with me She would recommend and reserve books for me As the years went by I would read and read until I just fall asleep at night but after I switch schools from Silliman Institute in Clinton to Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Baton Rouge everything changed I would
