As I used to believe that learning how to write in good penmanship was very important in our society I soon realized through reading Trubeks article Stop Teaching Handwriting that the importance of learning how to write with a pencil andor pen was slowly declining because of the advancements of technology In this article Trubeks son is criticized for not having legible penmanship While Anne grew furious with her sons 3rd grade teachers she explains I am a college professor and the only time I pick up a pen is to sign a credit card receipt Trubek 7 From this we are able to understand her point of view as to why she believes it is un-important for young generations to learn how to write in good penmanship rather than learning how to use computers and new technology as a way of documenting things For the first few years of my education specifically in lower and middle school I was obligated to hand write all my assignments just as Trubeks son was However because I was taught to write every assignment by hand with paper and a pencil I got the impression that this was the only way to do the task therefore I never complained when having to do my homework as I would now if I had to write a long assignment down by hand Thus I never really understood technology as being another way of documenting or recording something Being encouraged to conform and do things the way I was taught in my younger years even though typing it would be faster and easier I was forced to quickly adapt and agree with the idea that handwriting was the more successful way of completing assignments as most of my exams and tests were to be hand-written After reading Trubeks article and discussing this topic in English class I soon realized that the importance of
