During my 2012 winter break I went home to visit my family While shopping for my family at a local shopping mall I saw a mother screaming with distress that her child is dying I rushed to the child and found her to be exhibiting the universal sign of choking Immediately I started performing the Heimlich maneuver until the child expelled the foreign object As the child was breathing again normally the mother was very thankful with tears of joy This incident made me become a stronger person and helped me connect with my childhood It reminded the primary reasons why I initially wanted to be a doctor While traveling abroad as a child I have seen people suffer due to lack of treatment as a result of financial instability When I started at Ross University I instantly related to the local residents and the students who were striving to help the underserved natives of Dominica I joined the Caribbean Territory Mission project and involved myself in administering medical care These experiences taught me a valuable lesson I learned that medical treatment is only precious when given with sympathy and care Only by combining these characteristics a physician can obtain necessary information from patients to come to the correct diagnosis These mental transitions reassured me that my career choice was satisfactory These feelings of fulfillment helped me bond with the sick As I progressed into my clinical clerkships I gained more experiences and improved my critical thinking skills while remaining empathetic toward patientsDuring my clinical clerkships I was exposed to patient care in many different angles I liked many aspects of different specialties I decided that I need to go for a specialty that will expose me to all aspects of medicine After rotating in Internal Medicine core rotation I was instantly connected to the field I was exposed to many critical cases in an inpatient setting I have also worked with Pulmonary Critical Care
