In Crito Plato writes about Socrates and Crito arguing over Socrates escape from the prison Crito brings different arguments for Socrates escape saying that 1 Socrates children would become orphans and 2 People would think that Crito did not want to pay money for his friends release and he would have a bad reputation On his hand Socrates disputes all the arguments Crito brings He says that his friends would raise his children and Crito should not care about what majority thinks about him In this essay I will try to prove that Socrates arguments make more sense but at the same time there are problems with logic in his understanding of morality and lawCrito argues that Socrates should escape from prison because otherwise he would be leaving his children without a father But you ought not to bring children into the world unless you mean to take the trouble of bringing them up and educating It seems to me that you are choosing the easy way and not the way of a good and brave man as you ought Baird p101 45c Socrates has raised so many young people that it would seem unfair and wrong if he did not raise his own children and gave them the wisdom that he possessed One could see the situation that Socrates is in in two different way first Socrates is an old man tired of living who chooses to end his life and free himself from responsibilities and second Socrates did want to live but he could not betray everything that he believed in Crito also says that people would think Crito is stingy because he did not pay guards money to release Socrates But many persons who do not know you and me well will think that I might have saved you if I had been willing to spend money but that I neglected to do so And what reputation could be more disgraceful that
