During my freshman year I decided to participate in the club called Appalachia and so my spring break was spent in Pearisburg Virginia doing volunteer work for the community After each workday my group and I would sit in a circle with our journals at hand and reflect upon the work we were taking part in and the overall impact it had on the community as well as on ourselves I think that has been the best writing experience I have had in my life thus far Staten Island New York is my home With its close proximity to Manhattan Staten Island is a great place to live I love being from New York City without the constant hustle and bustle of Manhattan I am the youngest of four siblings with two brothers and a sister My mother is of Irish decent and my father who grew up on Staten Island is of German decent We live in a blue house with a white porch and have many American flags on our property Even our dogs name Liberty symbolizes the patriotic spirit of our family As I previously described my trip to Pearisburg impacted my view on the world and where I am headed in the future Also my fathers motto Everything in moderation shapes my attitude in life I feel fortunate for where I am at the moment but understand hard work and moderation are essential to create a balance in ones life I applied to BC late my senior year of high school mostly on whim thinking I would not be accepted Fortunately I received the acceptance letter that April and could not have been happier The campus is undeniably beautiful and the people are refreshingly outgoing Writing is sometimes a struggle but I hope to fine tune my skills with this class I often lack continuity in my writing and have difficulty with forming a thesis I went to St Joseph by
