America is a country built on having the freedom to be different Its a land of many races religions ethnicitys and beliefs Through all that there seems to be unrest between blacks and whites All though we live in a free country where all have equal rights some people of minority races feel there are not treated equally Also there are differences and similarities between black and white attitudes towards the topic of equality Most blacks feel they are not treated equally in the general community and also claim to not be equally considered for jobs have more trouble with housing then whites and are given lower standards of education At the same time most whites no less then 79 and no more then 93 feel a black person in America can get any job and have satisfactory housing and education The most interesting numbers are the 71 of blacks that feel they have opportunity for a good education but because they feel there isnt equality only 46 believe they have good job opportunities in the future All this carries over to standard of living and income Although only 58 of blacks said they didnt have as good a shot at a house as a white person and 75 of them were satisfied with the house they owned Even socially in situations like shopping eating out interaction with police and in a working atmosphere blacks feel the treatment they got because of race was evident When out shopping almost half of all black males interviewed felt they had been unfairly discriminated against While eating out 32 and when dealing with the police 34 felt they had been wronged because of their race While on average the numbers for black females were about half as much as the males In all these situations it is very likely for a white person to claim that blacks have as fair a chance
