The topic reality vs illusion supports the central theme of jealousy in the Shakespearean play Othello Iago sets this plan in the beginning of the play sets up a plan at the beginning to fool the other characters into seeing what he is not when he says I am not what I amAct1 sc1 Iagos manipulations and the characters inability to see past Iagos illusion support the central theme jealousy which leads to their downfall This inability to see the difference between reality and illusion is shown through the characters of Rodrigo and Othello Rodrigos inability to see past Iagos illusion and his jealousy of any man with Desdemona leads to his downfall Rodrigo is one of the characters that is deeply affected by Iagos game Iago portrays himself as a good friend in order to get what he wants out of Rodrigo Iago makes Rodrigo think that he can get Desdemona back for that he pays Iago to help him Rodrigos jealousy of Desdemona and Othello and Iagos lies pushes him to trust Iago Where Iago robs his jewels land and money By setting up the illusion that Iago is trustable man Rodrigo now trusts what ever Iago says Then later in order to use Rodrigo more in his evil plot Iago tell Rodrigo that now even Cassio is in love with Desdemona Rodrigos mounting passion for Desdemona and his jealousy of any man with Desdemona leads him to do anything to get her back So taking advantage of Rodrigos vernablity Iago uses him to kill Cassio then Iago kills Rodrigo Rodrigo inability to see Iagos real self leads him loses everything to Iago is land money jewels and eventually his life By ylakes namso
