It is a very rare occurrence for people to see more than what is right in front of their own eyes Sometimes people are so focused on what they know an object to be but do not look outside of the box to find the beauty behind it Doors of Perception gives great explanations of what it means to look beyond the norm and really gives me an understanding of what the course Seeing the World and the Self is really aboutOn our first day of class Professor Goldsmith explained to us that we would start looking at our surroundings in a new deeper way Doors of Perception showed me how people can take common things for granted and just overlook its true beauty In the book the main character learned how to look at ordinary objects in a new perspective While talking about the chair that he was finding so many new qualities of it he says that the concept is overtaken by the percept Meaning that once you begin to forget about the obvious characteristics of something you begin to find new characteristics that are rarely seenThe Doors of Perception is a perfect book to read for our class It describes what the concept of this course is going to be Not only by simply telling us but also by explaining specific items that begin to transform so we can get a better understanding Doors of perception was selected for us to read because it lays out the base line for our class so that we can recognize what we will be looking for and how to embrace our new observations
