Recently I have attended the first production of the play Bogboy on September 7th 2011 at 8PM located at the Irish Arts Center The cast and crew involved were Steve Blount Noelle Brown Sorcha Fox and Emmet Kirwan The playwright Deirdre Kinahan has done a phenomenal job with the play Bogboy She develops a successful story which portrays peoples inner struggles of trying to let go of the past and moving on but in the end the play reveals that at some point in life everyone needs a friend to be there for them The successful staging and production of director Jo Mangan completely emphasizes this theme which focuses on the bond between two friends The basic plot of Bogboy is about when a heroin addict named Brigit leaves her chaotic life in Dublin behind to reclaim herself in Navan and meets an isolated local farmer named Hughie Dolan Here she finds her first hopes for a better future but that soon changes when a terrible secret is revealed The main conflict that the principal character Brigit goes through is that she has trouble trusting others Also when Hughie revealed his guilty secret to Brigit she refused to help him out because she has just started to recover from her addiction and she is doing well with herself so far She wants to stay on the positive side of things and keep herself out of trouble so that she could fulfill her dream to a better future The overall tone and theme of the play was about a beautiful relationship torn apart by a terrible secret from the past The ideas that the play raises are friendship love forgiveness and sacrifice The questions that the play raises are What does it mean to be a true friend What does it take to prove your love for a loved one Under what circumstances should friends forgive each other To what extent would friends
