Hamlet an insane man or a sane man in an insane family In Shakespeares play Hamlet his most famous character of all time hits home with a lot of people today Hamlets life is turned upside down when he finds out that his father was murdered by his own brother who then proceeds to marry his mother within months of his fathers death This alone would make anyone is this position go crazy Hamlet is then faced with a key decision on how to seek revenge for this major family crisis The events in this play have made Hamlets character a very complex one to interpret As readers look at Hamlet as a person and learn about him as the play unfolds they begin to relate to why he does what he does Hamlets complex personality shows his inability to decide on things his diverse mental state and his concept of loveHamlet seems to be overwhelmed by the news of who killed his father in the beginning of the play showing his indecisiveness The reason for Hamlets inaction his hesitation I believe has to do with his gradual coming to terms with death Pearce 5 In acts two and three hamlet is clearly does not know how to deal with the information that has been given to him Angry and full of disgust he goes back and forth on how he should revenge his fathers death He battles an emotional battle of good versus evil and the moral factors of the task at hand To be or not to be that is the question Shakespeare 2448 This is Shakespeares most famous quote that does a great job at showing what is going on in Hamlets head He is genuinely a noble boy who is torn by the thought of killing for revenge This is the main factor in his lack of decision making In act three when Hamlet tells Claudius about the mouse
