A father buys his son a gun for his birthdaythe son kills seven people with the gunwho is responsible A mother buys her son his first car and after a late night party he decides to drive home drunk killing two people who is responsible According to Mark OMaras article Should Parents Be Criminally Liable for Kids Cyberbullying both the parents and the child are responsible But what about when a child receives a computer from their parents and it is use to bully and harass someone until they commit suicide OMara argues that legislation needs to be created to hold parents accountable for their childrens possible online-unlawfulness OMara is correct because if the parents buy a device that allows their children to access the web it may enable them to harass or bully others to the verge of suicide Parents may disagree with OMara because the possibility of supervising their childrens actions online is relatively low due to the fact of how accessible the internet is currently Teenagers can access the internet at school libraries and almost anywhere that provides a connection to cyberspace But when the parent buys a device which enables their child to access the internet then it certainly is the parents full responsibility in making sure their child is using the device correctly Parents need to understand that the technology they give to their children can be used to break the law and inflict harm OMara Parents ignorance of what can be done with internet capable devices is no longer an excuse and ought to be fixed with knowledge surrounding the internet The matter is simple and logical if a child conducts inappropriate unlawful behavior on a device given by the parents then both the child and parents should be held accountable under a penalty of law An establishment of law regarding the persecution of cyberbullying needs to be done soon or more occurrences like the Steubenville rape
