While it is possible for most Americans to drive vote and join the military all under the age of twenty-one they should also be able to choose whether or not they would like to smoke It is believed that the younger people begin to smoke they are more likely to become addicted There is a new law that doesnt allow people under twenty-one to any longer buy cigarettes Although many 18 year olds will find an alternative way to still obtain cigarettes whether its through buying it off of people that are twenty-one and over or getting one off of someone in the street The purpose of this essay is to explain why underage New Yorkers should be able to take part in smoking tobacco aside from what congress may believe I find it interesting that so many eighteen year-old Americans are able to fight in wars and buy lottery tickets legally but they are not able to buy cigarettes at their leisure This law may not be as effective as people thinkMost underage Americans that drive or vote should be seen as being able to handle smoking Eighteen to twenty year olds are able to legally attain their drivers license or fight for their country and should also be able buy cigarettes This situation reminds me of my friend Jessica she is eighteen and she smokes several packs of cigarettes a day She started smoking when she was sixteen due to family problems and she turned to smoking to find a way to release some stress Even though she has tried several times to stop smoking she has not been deemed unsuccessful Starting at such a young age has caused her to become addicted to cigarettes and I do not see her quitting any time soon Jessica supports herself finically has a job and lives on her own that alone should show that she is completely capable and mature enough to make the decision
