Parents dealing with a pre-teen or a teenager is not always easy Could you imagine dealing with a pre-teen with an eating disorder There are many different types of eating disorders Anorexia Bulimia Binge Eating Over Eating and Partial Syndrome Anorexia is the most common You hear about popular celebrities having eating disorders and trying to stay as thin as possible because that is how the public views them But you rarely hear about 10yr olds having eating disorders The article Starving for Acceptance written by Margaret Rank published on Parentingcom in July 2009 describes a mother and her daughters eating disorder and what causes her eating disorder and how having an eating disorder can affect your life I really liked reading this article it was very informative and kept my interest Also it was very well written which made it not only easy to read but enjoyable to read Michele Walker is a mother of a 10-year-old girl Shae who was a very talented little girl growing up Shae was a gymnast moving up on the ranks of competition since she was 4yrs old As Shae got older she continued her life as a gymnast and by the age of 10 she would practice for over 14 hours a week Walker realized that her daughters interest in gymnastics began to fade and sure enough it came to an end A few years passed and Shae began to feel insecure about herself as she started to fill out a bit Walker thought Shae filling out made her look healthier but Shae only felt self-conscious And thus began to cut back on eating sweets and chips then dairy and meat and finally she only ate salads Shae then began to exercise obsessively after every meal Walker started to notice all of the changes in her 13yr old daughter and decided that Shae was in desperate need of help Realizing that Shae had lost 17lbs
