Bob's feedback:
"You've identified some important issues raised in The Hate U Give. You do a good job of introducing your topic; however, the essay should be organized into paragraphs -- an introduction, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion -- to improve readability and indicate shifts in focus. When summarizing the story, make sure your reader has the necessary background information (who is Hailey, for instance?). Although your focus is largely on discrimination based on race, you provide few examples from the text that the assumptions around Khalil's character are based on his race. Consider carefully what the examples from the text indicate. For instance, you claim that Hailey's excitement about missing an English test "shows how young individuals can take the opportunity to miss classes..." The deeper issue is that Hailey's motives and reactions are entirely self-serving. Make sure to focus on the overarching themes rather than immediate causes and effects. Finally, a round of proofreading will help make this essay ready for submission."
