Ovulation is the time in the menstrual cycle when an egg is released from an ovary in order to be fertilized by sperm This period of time is the most fertile for women and their chances of impregnation are higher Beall and Tracy 2013 hypothesized that women during this period of ovulation were more likely to wear red or pink coloured clothing when they were ovulating since some men are attracted to the colour red and women like to look especially attractive during their most fertile time The researchers did an online survey on 124 women of ages 17 to 47 and asked them two questions what colour shirt were they wearing at the moment and when was the last time that they had their period From the answers provided the researchers found that women who were at a high-fertility point were 35 times more likely to wear these shades of colour than the ones who were not ovulating Beall and Tracy 2013 concluded that although more samples were necessary fertile women tended to wear red and pink coloured clothing resulting in an observable behaviour of ovulation in humans The Beall and Tracy 2013 study was very well written and contained numerous references to back up the researchers points The researchers provided the reader with possible explanations as to why men are attracted to the colour red and therefore why women might wear this colour at their peak fertility The explanation included a logical reasoning if human men and males in other species find red an attractive colour Bielert et al 1989 and specific hormones make women feel sexier at their peak fertility stage Haselton and Gangestad 2006 women are likely to wear red coloured clothing during this time The researchers made their hypothesis very clear at the beginning of their paper and focused on it all throughout The methods they picked related to the study and their single figure summarized their results accurately
