AbstractThis paper discusses how to age successfully by avoiding major health problems or managing them if they do arise Some of the problems that occur with aging include the following depression inadequate sleep nutrition and exercise Alzheimers disease and living arrangements nursing home vs home All of these problems can be linked together in one form or another The three problems that will be discussed in more detail in this paper are depression Alzheimers disease AD and living arrangements Santrock 2008 defines depression as a mood disorder that involves an individual being very unhappy demoralized and even in some cases considered bored Kellylegg 2009 defines Alzheimers disease AD as a neurodegenerative disease that is found mostly in adults over 65 years of age and includes loss of memory and other intellectual and social abilities involved in daily life This paper examines possible causes preventative measures and treatment for these disorders as well as the effects of living arrangements on individualsKeywords depression Alzheimers diseaseAging is a process that everyone must go through at some point in time It has its advantages and disadvantages Several changes take place as individuals age and enter mid-life and late life Different studies have been performed to show the effects of different factors on aging or the effect aging has on the factors These factors include the following depression sleep nutrition and exercise Alzheimers disease and living in a nursing home versus living at home Santrock et al explains how these factors play an important role in the aging process In performing my biological age test my results were as follows biological age is 27 virtual age is 116 average life expectancy is 74 my life expectancy is 894 and it is estimated I will live for another 22800 days In this paper I will discuss how I plan to age successfully and avoid life altering problems such as depression and Alzheimers disease or manage them if they do arise
