1984 a novel by George Orwell contains a myriad of hidden themes about the current society as long as the reader has the determination to read between the lines and pick out the important information One of the plethora of hidden information is the details of the stereotypical role of women that is true even in todays society The novel embeds hidden meanings in its main female characters involving womens roles in society one of them being that women are dependent creatures who are toys for society and the men they crave forTo begin with Julia is the key wrongdoer when it comes to showing the stereotypical role of women in current times First she proves that women are merely sexual objects by having a history of innumerable affairs Julia mainly starts her affairs with men because of her need for sexual pleasure and she is dependent on the men who can provide that for her When Winston asks her how many affairs shes had Julia responds with quote Orwell Because of this fact Winston seems to like her more because she indulges in sexual pleasures as her personal rebellion towards the Party and Winston feels the same way Because Winston harbors no romantic feelings for Julia before she hands him the note and he only engages in the affair because he is interested in having sex with Julias youthful body whatever quote Orwell Second Julia demonstrates that women are dependent on men ever since she and Winston met When Julia handed Winston the slip of paper with her love confession on it she candidly asked for Winstons help to pull herself up quote Even though the gesture was in order to hand the secret note over to Winston its odd how she couldnt think of any other ideas to pass it on Lastly Julia also symbolizes the stereotypical selfish aspect of women in which she places her own safety above
