Most classical pieces of literature use the very effective literary element known as symbolism to enhance stories with deeper meaning Throughout the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte symbolism played an active role in emphasizing on particular crucial events The fascinating connection between weather and the emotions of the characters was used throughout the novel to stress the particular mood of the situation Emily Bronte even used the burial location of Catherine to emphasize her torn love between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange One other particular symbolism that was very fascinating was Catherines locket when she died which contained three intertwined pieces of hair that belonged to Catherine Edgar and Heathcliff symbolizing how death does not solve problems in life Wuthering Heights became a more passionate dramatic love story from the deep symbolism displayed throughout the novel Emily Bronte created great threatening storms when anger sprew among the characters and bright beautiful days when all was content The day Heathcliff overheard Catherine talking negatively about him and left a great storm began that night Emily Bronte created an entire atmosphere of misery to emphasize how Heathcliffs departure during that scene was very depressing and significant to the story During the storm the fields are destroyed and a large tree splits and knocks part of their chimney down The night is described as very damp and dreary Catherine even becomes sick from the terrible weather which added to the dramatic atmosphere of the night Towards the middle of the novel Catherine dies and once again Emily Bronte uses weather to symbolize the mood of the situation The day she dies the beautiful spring weather suddenly disappeared and a terrible snow storm began This sudden change of season symbolized By emphasizing the mood of particular crucial events throughout the novel with the weather the story becomes more emotional and provides the reader with a clearer perspective of the situation Another symbolism in which Emily Bronte used very
