From the two short stories The Necklace by Guy De Maupassant and The Gift of the Magi by oHenry many important ideas have been presented Among them the most representative and significant ones which I believe to be from The Necklace is Greed and Generosity and Love and Generosity for The Gift of the Magi In my opinion those ideas are significant because the Greed and Generosity symbolizes our materialistic society of 2011 and represents part of our society by using the Love and GenerosityIn this materialistic society everyone wants a better life even someone who is in one of the more superior classes or they are rich of assets This aspect is happening exactly the same from The Necklace When she sat down for dinner at the round table covered with a three-days-old cloth opposite her husband who took the cover off the soup-tureen According to this quote it describes she has plenty of food but according to the next text she wants delicate meals gleaming silver and more luxurious things and her wish seems to made her greedy However Madamn Forestier was different She let Mathilde to take the necklace which was found to be an imitation necklace but it still worth 500 frances which is 100 frances more expensive than Madamn Loisels ball dress this Madame Forestiers action is described as the generosity from this storyThe Necklace is the central symbol of this story and it represents her greed and her artificiality She had no clothes no jewels nothing And these were the only thing she loved she felt that she was made for them She loved all those luxurious things and judged herself by the thing she has Although she loved them she did not have any good dress or jewels as she said so when she could barely buy a ball dress the necklace became the symbolization of her greed Also when she had that artificial necklace everyone was fooled
